Before you judge this casting choice, remember that Matthew McConaughey didn’t have the respect he has now when he was cast in True Detective‘s first season. Vince Vaughn seems to be the next person in line for a leading role in the highly acclaimed second season of the show.

The second season will feature four main characters – three detectives and a villain, and will center around public transportation in California.

There are talks that Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are also in line to play the two male detectives, with the third being female. Producers have their eyes on multiple Emmy nominee Elisabeth Moss for the role of the third detective.

I’m putting my bets that Vaughn is set to play the villain in the series, and say what you like, it is genius casting as Vaughn may not be the greatest actor working today, but he has at time shown his dramatic skills, and it would be great to see him play against type.

Season Two of True Detective is expected to begin airing early next year.
