Shazam! Dwayne Johnson To Play The Role Of Black Adam

Rumors have been circulating for months, and the announcement is finally here: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will play Black Adam in the film adaptation of Shazam!

The wrestler-turned-actor confirmed it today in a tweet.

Black Adam is Shazam’s main villain. He is a an immortal and power-hungry son of an Egyptian pharaoh. However, in the recent comics, he’s shaping to be more of an anti-hero rather than a villain.

The film is set to be produced by New Line, a Warner Brothers subsidiary, and the script is to be written by Darren Lemke.

“It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself,” said Toby Emmerich, president of New Line. “It’s a DC comic, but it’s not a Justice League character, and it’s not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies.”

He continued to say that the movie “will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real.”

The actor who will play Shazam has not been announced, nor has the presence or casting of the so-called ‘Marvel Family’ been added to the film yet.

This movie is one of many to be on the DC Comics slate, however it is unknown which date the movie will be released.

My guess is early 2017, maybe late 2016 if they’re lucky.

Do you think Dwayne Johnson is a good fit for this role?
