The Slants Premiere New Album Track “Capture Me Burning”

PopWrapped is delighted to premiere a track from The Slants’ new album, Something Slanted This Way Comes, entitled “Capture Me Burning”.

Now settled in Portland, Oregon, The Slants — the first all Asian-American dance rock band — have worked long and hard to achieve all the success they have to date.

Taking inspiration from an array of musical genres — hence their rather eclectic sound — the band have since come to call their creations pieces of “Chinatown Dance Rock”.

Having already released several albums, the band have never been afraid to experiment and have create records which transcend the many restrictions many other artists often put on their work. Their forthcoming album, Something Slanted This Way Comes, is testament to their commitment and dedication to creating the music THEY want to and sharing it with like minded music fans around the world.

Ahead of the release of their new album, PopWrapped is delighted to premiere a track from the collection titled “Capture Me Burning”, which you can listen to below.

The song was inspired by the band’s long-running legal dispute with the U.S. government over registering their trademark. It was a long-fought battle but one which the band came out from victorious and, as vocalist Ken Shima explains about “Capture Me Burning”:

In many ways, it reflects the incredible journey that we’ve had in this band. No one expected this all-Asian American dance rock band who was playing anime conventions to embark on a six-year legal battle against the U.S government — and win. Yet, through our persistence and the tenacity of our communities, we were able to help revoke an outdated racist law by being victorious in our trademark case.

The song is an immensely catchy, almost anthemic number that from the outset just calls out to have toes tapping and heads nodding, helped along by a sharp dance rhythm and drum beat. Lyrically, it’s a superb number for crowd-sing alongs or blasting at full volume from car or bedroom speakers — there’s no denying this band make music to move to!
