It was a hard knock life and it was an even harder life for rapper Tupac Shakur who’s musical will succeed Annie’s run at the Palace Theatre. It’s official – anything and everything can become a musical. After all, is that not a great reason to love Broadway? Musicals have no bounds after all. That is confirmed with Holler If Ya Hear Me, the new Tupac musical. Don’t believe us?

We have the poster debut courtesy EW and IndieWire to prove it.

According to EW, the show is slated to begin previews May 26 this year. The new musical boasting the greatest hits by rapper Tupac Shakur, will later hit Broadway at the Palace Theatre on June 19. Casting for the show remains to be announced.

Holler If Ya Hear Me shares its title with Tupac’s autobiographical song off of his second solo album. The songs accompanying music video tells the story of a girl who sees her own father being murdered and then buys a gun. The young girl and her friends then ban together to then avenge her father’s death.

While the show will not tell the story of Tupac’s life, it will instead use his discography as “a window into the realities of the streets still relevant today” states the shows official press release, reports IndieWire.

The non-biographical musical is written by Todd Kreidler and directed by Tony nominee Kenny Leon. The latter will direct the upcoming revival of A Raisin in the Sun starring Denzel Washington.

Shakur’s mother will act as one of the shows producers, heading the design team including Wayne Cilento (choreography), Reggie Ray (costume desgn), David Gallo (set design), and Mike Baldassari (light design).
