Reality game shows continually break boundaries and rules (especially their own). For example, Biggest Loser made several changes this season, including allowing celebrities to compete. The Voice is another show mixing things up and changing their rules.
In the musical competition’s 5th season, something called “Instant Save” is shaking up this tough contest. What is is? As Carson Daly explained, “viewers….can save a contestant in the bottom three by tweeting during a specific five-minute window during the live elimination show.” The fans have to tweet #VoiceSave along with their favorite singer’s first name. Whoever gets the most Twitter mentions will be saved from the chopping block (at least for one more week).
This move is an interesting one. It does shake things up and creates an air of suspense. For television both of those things are good bits to add. It keeps a show fresh and new. Stale, stagnant programs usually bore fans, thus causing them to look elsewhere for entertainment.
On Tuesday’s during the results show, do be prepared to Tweet on your device of choice. Make sure thou listen closely for Carson Daly’s announcement about the open Instant Save Twitter window. “[V]iewers in Mountain and Pacific time zones, follow “The Voice” on Twitter where they will also announce who is in the bottom three so you will be able to vote”.
The performance portion of The Voice airs at 8 PM, EST on Mondays. Tuesday’s at 9 PM, EST is when the results show airs. Please tune in and see what happens. It should be very interesting.
