The Weeknd Announces New Album And Collaboration With Daft Punk

After mysteriously deleted his entire Instagram history, The Weeknd returned announcing his new album and debuting the art.

A year after the success of Beauty Behind the Madness, The Weeknd announced his next album.

Starboy was announced along with the single of the same name. The single also features Daft Punk and is their first release since their single “Give Life Back to Music” in 2014. The single is more EDM based than anything that  The Weeknd has released before, but still feature the same signature lyrics and vocal talent that made fans fall in love with him in the first place.

The Weeknd also premiered the cover art for the album, featuring him in dark blue, with a cross hanging around his neck a red background behind him. The album title pops out in yellow behind The Weeknd’s new short hairstyle, different from his signature long locks that have become his trademark.

On his Instagram, The Weeknd took to post more pictures from the same shoot, all of which were shot by photographer Nabil. Previous photos that were posted on his Instagram were deleted and no longer found. One particular photo had the caption “r.i.p. ‘@abelxo,’” hinting at a new chapter in his work. Photos of the album cover all around the world were also posted. The Weeknd previously hinted at a collaboration with Daft Punk in a since-then deleted Instagram post that featured their helmets.

The album is already for pre-order on iTunes, with the name of the third track revealed as “False Alarm.” The album will feature 18 tracks, all of which except for “False Alarm” are explicit. No other production or album details were revealed.

Saturday Night Live announced later that day that The Weeknd will be the first musical guest of the season with Margot Robbie hosting on October 1st. It is expected to be the first live performance of “Starboy” and other songs from the album.

Starboy is set to come out on November 25th.
