Tom Hardy is returning to the realm of comic book movies.

After informing Batman that he has his permission to die as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, and having come *this* close to playing Rick Flag in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, Tom Hardy will be producing and potentially starring in a film adaptation of the Vertigo comic series 100 Bullets for New Line Cinema.

You’re sitting on the train when an old man approaches you. He’s holding a shiny attaché case, but what’s really arresting are his words. The darkly violent, Eisner Award-winning noir comic series ran for 100 issues from 1999 to 2009.

The screenwriting duties for the adaptation of Brian Azzarello’s work fall to Chris Borrelli, who formerly wrote The Vatican Tapes and The Marine 2. While those films may not be the best advert for how 100 Bullets may or may not turn out, on the upside DC mainstays Adam Schlagman and Geoff Johns will also be keeping an eye on the production, with the latter having previously written episodes of Smallville, Arrow, and The Flash.

Between 100 Bullets and Deadpool, it seems as though R-rated comic book movies may well become a more frequent fixture at the cinema before too long.
