With the new season of Dancing With The Stars: “All Athlete” edition, we have taken the opportunity to remember some of our favorites from DWTS past.

With the new season of Dancing With The Stars set to be an "All Athlete" edition. We have taken the opportunity to remember some of our favorites from DWTS past. We have to say that majority of the time, athletes do very well on the show.  We think it is because they are coachable and most sports have a skill or skills that his relatable to dance.   Here are a few of our favorites from seasons past.

1. Meryl Davis

Season 18 – Partner: Maksim Chmerkovskiy

These two had unbelievable chemistry and her figure skating abilities came straight through on to the dance floor. This pair was a front runner from the beginning and actually won season 18!

2. Charlie White

Season 18 – Partner: Sharna Burgess

Charlie is actually the figure skating partner of Meryl Davis. Although, his technique and abilities to lead a lady were put on the ballroom, he only finished fifth. We still loved watching his performances every week.

3. Emmitt Smith

Season 3 – Partner: Cheryl Burke

DWTS was still in its beginning phases during season 3. There were not as many props or gimmicks and Emmitt's personality and quick feet brought him to the top of the leader board. He and Cheryl won the season with a fantastic free style.

4. Amy Purdy

Season 18 – Partner: Derek Hough

Amy Purdy is a para-snowboarder. Due to bacterial meningitis, Purdy lost both of her legs at age 19. She started snowboarding about a year after the surgery. She showed the world that anything is possible and that you can overcome anything. Her breathtaking performances landed her in second place.

5. James Hinchcliff

Season 23 – Partner: Sharna Burgess

Hinchcliff is a race car driver that was definitely in the fast lane in the ballroom. His personality and his sports driven determination helped him to improve each week and win over voters. He also placed second in his season.

6. Rashad Jennings

Season 24 – Partner: Emma Slater

Rashad brought his own flare into the ballroom. His football skills came through as he was light and quick on his feet, but he also had his own swagger. His personality and his ability to loosen up in the ballroom earned him the mirror ball.

7. Paige VanZant

Season 22 – Partner: Mark Ballas

Paige VanZant is a UFC fighter that proved she could perform in the ring and on the dance floor. Her flexibility and her strength helped her fight her way through the competition leading her to second place.

8. Laurie Hernandez

Season 23 – Partner: Valentin Chmerkovskiy

Our favorite on the list has to be Laurie Hernandez. At such a young age, Laurie was able to giggle and strut her way through the competition. Having just finished the summer olympics, she still had the fire and fight that could not be matched by any competitor. This helped her to win the mirror ball.
