“Back To The Future: The Ride” has been gone from Universal Studios Hollywood since September 2007, when it was replaced by “The Simpsons Ride”. However, the classic film might be returning to the park for its 30th anniversary next year!

Sadly, the 3D motion simulator movie ride won’t be back, but the park’s newest idea would be an incredible replacement. The new Back To The Future encounter would feature a recreation of the scene when Marty goes back to the future in the DeLorean. But wait – that’s not all; it would actually be placed at the very spot the scene was filmed!
Since the TV show that has been filming at Courthouse Square is finishing up, Universal could, and might, recreate the original 1985 Back to the Future set. The current plan is to recreate the faux 1955 scenery, which would act as a drive-by attraction for visitors during the day.
However, at night, things get really cool. The tram cars would stop at Courthouse Square for a four minute, pyro, lighting, sound effect stunt show that would put Doc Brown on the top of the clock tower. Eventually, Marty McFly’s DeLorean will speed past and blast back to the future!
Universal has typically staged its Studio Tour encounters (Jaws, King Kong) on purpose built sets to separate the actual production facilities from the visitor areas, but there have been cases, Earthquake for example, where the production actually took place on the real encounter area.
2015 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Back To The Future franchise, and is also the year that Marty McFly visited in the second film, so the encounter would certainly be an appropriate way to mark a crucial year.
How cool would this be? I’m all for it and I so can’t wait to visit it!
