Irish-American actress Saoirse Ronan has been linked to the upcoming The Avengers sequel. Speculation began that she would play Scarlet Witch, especially after rumours emerged suggesting that writer-director Joss Whedon is using her as a “prototype” for that character.

When asked if she would consider a role alongside Robert Downey Jnr and Mark Ruffalo, Ronan said, “I have heard about it [the rumour that she is Whedon’s prototype for Scarlet Witch] and yes, I would.

“Yeah, of course I would. I love Joss and I love those films. I love his handle on them and how he portrayed these kinds of superheroes. I think it’s very different from what anyone else has done. So yeah, I’d love to be in it.”

Whedon talked about The Avengers 2, and also the addition of characters, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, to the franchise when he recently appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. He said, “There are new characters. I’ve already said that we’re going to have a brother-sister team, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who were great mainstays of The Avengers when I was reading the comics as a kid.”

No production schedule has yet been given for The Avengers 2, but it’s slated for release on 1 May 2015.
