Staff Writer

WWE fans rejoice! The World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. has announced plans to provide on-demand content for $9.99 a month. The content will include access to a library of matches and pay-per-view events spanning six decades, including those from the WCW and ECW archive, it will also include streams to any pay-per-view events that go on during the year. They are currently planning on launching to the U.S. with a worldwide rollout to follow shortly after.

Considering all the niche programs and channels that are currently available for a myriad of activities, one can’t help but wonder what took wrestling so long to get to this point considering its rich history, spanning over six decades, to draw content from.

Although this is a vastly different delivery method from how wrestling has normally shown its product, the live flagship shows RAW and Smackdown will remain exclusively on pay TV in their traditional format.

“We’re not constrained by, ‘You can’t do this’,” WWE chairman and chief executive Vince McMahon said. “But don’t get me wrong, we don’t want anyone to cut the cord. That’s not to our advantage.”

With the launch of the new network will come new programming as well. A new reality series Legends House will be a version of The Real World where past WWE stars are placed in a house to live together. In addition, there will also be pre and post-RAW and SmackDown shows and NXT, which follows the development of future Superstar.

WWE Network will be available on Kindle Fire, Android, iOS, Roku, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 on February 24. The network is coming and it’s for real, unlike the… erm… well this is definitely real!
