After eight seasons and a nearly six-year hiatus from TV screens, Curb Your Enthusiasm is returning to HBO this October. In the new trailer for the show’s ninth season, star, creator, and curmudgeon-extraordinaire Larry David is front and center and, thankfully from the looks of it, still as hilariously testy and trouble-prone as ever.
Yoo-hooing a judge in court, calling out a coworker for missing work due to constipation, and shooing away young love right outside his window—yep, Larry’s back!
In July, David told Vulture his decision to bring Curb Your Enthusiasm back for another season stemmed surprisingly from a bit of sentimentality on his part—and also him being tired of people asking all the time when it was coming back: “You know, I’m not a miser, so to speak. I don’t really miss things, people that much. But I was missing it. And I was missing these idiots. So I thought, ‘Yeah, what the hell?’ I got tired of people asking me, ‘Is the show coming back?’ I couldn’t face that question anymore. And I wasn’t ready to say no, never. And I kept saying, ‘Maybe, who knows?’”
All of the Emmy-winning and largely improvised show’s regular co-stars are back on board for season nine, including Jeff Garlin, JB Smoove, Cheryl Hines, Susie Essman, and Richard Lewis. Plot details are few and far between, but based on the goodies in the trailer, crazy shenanigans will ensue, Larry will make things infinitely more messy by virtue of being Larry, and the results will be pretty, pretty, pretty good. As he calls out in a voiceover early in the trailer: “I’m not doing this for me. I did it for you and you and you!”
The ninth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm begins on HBO Sunday, October 1.
