Tobias Menzies Joins The Crown As Prince Philip

The Crown has found its new Prince Philip.

Netflix officially announced on Twitter yesterday that Outlander actor Tobias Menzies will be replacing Matt Smith, assuming the role of Prince Philip in seasons three and four of the Golden Globe-winning drama:

Fans of the series have been anticipating this casting news since the streaming service revealed in October that Broadchurch actress Olivia Colman would be replacing Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth.

Colman and Menzies will portray the now middle-aged royal couple from the mid-1960’s onward.

Producer Of The Crown Addresses Salary Controversy

This casting announcement comes shortly news broke that Foy was paid less that Smith during the first two seasons. Executive producer Suzanne Mackie has since addressed this controversy, telling Variety, “Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen.”

Season three of The Crown is expected to hit Netflix later this year or in 2019.
