I must confess I am not the biggest fan of horror shows. Really, I’m basing these decisions on the creepiest episodes I remember watching. Therefore, you may not agree with all my choices, and you are welcome to comment your opinions, in the comment section below. Also, rather than have loads of the same series, I have got 5 episodes from different series’; obviously, all of the following have other scary and/or creepy episodes.
5: The Walking Dead- Guts
Wow, this was the second episode into the first season. And it really creeped me out. In fact, if you look on IMDB,
the description they give subtly tells you it won’t be a particularly nice episode, highlighted by the title as stated above.
Rick finds himself trapped, with other survivors, inside a department store, surrounded by zombies.
One scene that particularly stuck out was when the group of survivors are trapped in the department store, with no means of escape. In order to get past the zombies, without being eaten, the group decides to cut up a dead body, and smear Rick and Glenn in the blood and guts, effectively drowning out their distinct scent of the living. In order to cut up the body though, they violently hack at the corpse of the dead security guard.
I guess that explains the guts.
4: Grimm- Organ Grinder

As the title suggests, it involves lots of organs. It is a sadistic twist on the Hansel and Gretel story, but rather than harvest the flesh of little girls and boys, they harvest organs.
Initially, the murder of the teen at the beginning and the extremely unusual car crash with organs strewn all over the road, the police thought it was black market organ trafficking. What Nick actually discovers is a group of Geiers, who are basically monsters who harvest the organs of others, but do so whilst their victims are still alive, loving their desperate screams.
A particularly horrific scene is when the police find a greenhouse, that they were led to by the phone number of an organ dealer, and become face to… well, face to organ. They walk into a greenhouse full of strung up organs, drying out. If you hadn’t put down your dinner before this time, you certainly would have at this scene.
3: Hannibal- Buffet Froid

I tried to get my sister to watch this with me, and she left after about 30 seconds of watching it. And that was only the ‘what happened previously’ part. Not to mention, the episode began with a ‘Watch at viewer’s discretion’ warning. Not a good sign.
This episode is creepy in many aspects. You get the chilling realisation of Will Graham’s mental state, as well as your run of the mill murders.
The murders in question were the sort that pops up on screen and you cringe away, pushing any lovely snacks you had planned to eat, far, far away. One of the victims was Beth LeBeau; she drowned in a pool of her own blood, after having been given a ‘Glasgow smile’. Nice.
Also, the advance in Graham’s mental state gives a sharp realisation of how short his time is. However, Graham is unaware of this, seeing as Hannibal has intimidated Dr. Sutcliffe into keeping the true diagnosis from him.
2: Supernatural- Bugs

This is really high up on my list, and many of you may easily disagree with this particular choice, but I really hate bugs Again, not a jumpy-scary episode, but it is one of the creepiest things I have ever had to watch. The basic idea of the episode is that after a construction worker is killed at the beginning by insects, Sam and Dean investigate the town’s history and find that the new housing development is built on sacred Indian land. The sacred land in question has been cursed when their reservation had been ravished and destroyed. Sam and Dean spend the episode trying to survive and kill the deadly swarms of bees, locusts, spiders and beetles. . I can’t stand a spider on the wall, let alone a multitude of the eight-legged beasts emerging from the shower.
1: American Horror Story- Halloween Part 2
American Horror Story. It was clear this series would get quite high up the list, and it is definitely worthy of the number one spot. It’s truly amazing how Ryan Murphy can create something so joyous as Glee, whilst simultaneously creating something that has even the best of us hiding under our covers.
I chose the Halloween episode for two reasons: First because it is Halloween tomorrow, and this is the scenario that NOBODY wants on their Halloween. And things that I can link to real life make it so much more scary, as there is a small possibility it could happen to me. The second reason is because I feel like this particular episode may not have been the best episode of them all, but it is certainly an effective one.
Tate’s story line was the best part of this episode; you truly understood that was something wrong with him, especially when you look at it from Violet’s point of view. When he was cornered on the beach by the five teens, they insist that Tate had murdered them all. This highlights how disturbed this character is as he has completely blocked out his murder spree.
This episode is definitely worth the watch if you haven’t already.
So this is my Top 5 Scary TV Shows. If you watch any of the episodes, or have done in the past, and I’ve missed out your favorite part, let us know in the comment section below.
