If you were a 90’s baby, then you most likely grew up with British pop sensation, the Spice Girls. Comprised of Victoria “Posh” Beckham, Emma “Baby” Bunton, Melanie “Sporty” Chisholm, Geri “Ginger” Horner, and Melanie “Scary” Brown, they were the reigning “It” girls of that period and they found their way into our hearts. Not only do the girls sing and dance, they’re not too bad at acting in Spice World.
Although the film itself was rated poorly by critics, it was and continues to be a gem for every Spice Girl fan. In celebration of its 18th birthday, here are five things we’ve all learned from watching Spice World numerous times.
1. It’s completely appropriate to have a swing and a fish tank in your double decker bus.
Can we just say, #busenvy? The Spice bus is accommodated with everything you’ll ever need when you go travel. In addition, you also get beanbag chairs and your own miniature runway (thank you, Posh Spice). Oh, let’s not forget their iconic wardrobe.
Speaking of which, this leads me to number two…
2. “I don’t know what to wear” syndrome.
One of my favorite scenes in Spice World was when Posh had a clothing crisis: she couldn’t decide what Gucci dress to wear! This was absolutely mind-blowing to me; Victoria is one of the few fashion icons I look up to, and it surprised me that she had one of those days. Looking back, it felt pretty nice for all of us to be able to relate.
3. Aliens can be fans, too.
There was this one part in Spice World where the girls casually enter the forest late at night to use the restroom, and bam! Aliens.
Whether or not you’ve followed them from the beginning, anyone can be a Spice Girl or a Spice Boy. If you’re out of this world, then you can Spice Alien or whatever works for you!
4. Pregnancy
Being kids when when we first saw Spice World, we’ve always known that giving birth is hard. Also, remember; please don’t be like Geri.
Please.
5. Friendship never ends…even after Spice World is over.
Many Spice Girls fans know that Geri left the group shortly afterwards, and little did we know that event would foreshadow the girl group’s hiatus, aka a momentary break-up. Then came the tabloids on some of the members fighting. Even though hearing the news back then shattered our hearts into pieces, we realized that this is a part of all relationships. There will be times you’ll fight with someone you truly care about, and maybe, you or that person may leave your life temporarily or for good. In the Spice Girls case, however, it shows that things can get better.
Viva forever, PopWrappers!
