Warning to Tumblr users – members from 4Chan have unveiled plans to raid Tumblr accounts with graphic gifs, images, and anon hate. There will be at least 3 of these raids; the first of which happened between the 4th and 5th of July. As of now they have stopped, but these people are planning future attacks. Images of rape, gore, and animal cruelty (among other things) are popping up in tags relating to the following: feminism, fandoms, selfies, Disney, and equality. They are gathering selfies (even those of minors) and photo-shopping them into pornographic images. They are creating gifs that quickly switch from nice to horrific. An anonymous 4Chan user, ID number xFJKn2SI, has recently given instructions on how to prepare for the next round: “Make a tumblr account. And few other backup accounts. Start fallowing the targeted group of people. Earn their trust and infiltrate them. At the same time build up your gore and rape folders preparing for the onslaught. If you do not wish to post then use the account to add notes to the posts.” This attack is scheduled for July 20. With this information, you might be wondering how to protect yourself. If you have a Tumblr, turn off anon and the submit feature so they can’t send threats or images of hate and rape. If you’re worried about being hacked, enable two-factor authentication in the Account settings. Thirdly, if you do get such messages, don’t delete; call the cops. They can trace those messages as long as they have not been posted. Be sure to report anything vulgar to Tumblr as well. There has been a petition started to stop this cyber terrorism. Be sure to check it out. Good luck, and stay safe! Keep Up With PopWrapped On The Web!
