This has been a devastating week for the mighty army of Gleeks. To top it off, we may not be singing along with Lima’s motley crew until November, as opposed to the originally scheduled September.

According to NY Daily News, Fox officials gathered Monday evening to discuss the best course of action in light of Cory Monteith’s tragic and untimely passing. One of the ideas reportedly bounced around was to push the season five premier back in order to, “let everyone breathe.”

Monteith has been a key character since the series’ inception, so writing his character out of the story is a task that I do not envy of Ryan Murphy.

Monteith’s character, Glee’s strong yet vulnerable protagonist Finn Hudson, is so ingratiated in almost every aspect of the show that it’s hard to imagine how the creators will even begin to go on without him. But I also don’t know many writers more talented than Ryan Murphy, so I have faith that he will not disappoint us.

Another reason for possibly pushing the premier back is due to Monteith’s extensive role in season five’s first two episodes; episodes that were strangely written before the cast and crew went on summer break after last season wrapped.

Glee has not been completely derailed, however, as they still intend to move forward with their plan to cast two new female roles. It has been reported that Glee is searching for a “cute and quirky” girl named Jenny in her early twenties that will play a major recurring guest role, and whom we will meet in episode two. The creators are also searching for an African-American student to wander the hallowed halls of McKinely High.

No matter what Fox ultimately decides, one thing is for sure: Thursday nights will never be the same.
