Jim Peterik is a true part of rock in roll history, the man that gave us that song we all sing when we are trying to get pumped up, when we are about to overcome something larger than us, you know that song, “Eye Of The Tiger”; he has returned with a masterfully produced and beautiful new album filled with reimagined versions of many of his hits. Produced and mixed with the professionalism that we have come to expect from Jim Peterik, this new album titled The Songs, will be a welcome album to his many fans.
Opening with the track “Vehicle”, Jim wastes no time with making sure you know that he has some serious vocal skills with his blues inspired vocal line. The piano is played romantically alongside his smooth and emotionally charged vocal line, and right away this is going to be a true album favorite.
A truly unique musical reimagining is the blue grass, banjo heavy, “Eye Of The Tiger”. This is not what you would expect anyone to try with a song of this legendary status; but it really works well. Somehow this song maintains its inspirational power, even though it has been stripped down to the core, and this is a true testament to how great this song was and will always be.
Moving on throughout the album we come across a song called “Heavy Metal”, and this song has one part blues, another part funk, and a lot of rock. A personal favorite of mine on this album, of course not my favorite due to how much sentimental value “Eye Of The Tiger” has for me, but a great song nonetheless.
Jim Peterik has shown us all that he is clearly passionate about music, and that he has a lot to show these new musicians looking to make their own great albums. It isn’t easy to make a different version of a song, especially when you change it almost completely. What Jim Peterik has brought to the table with his new album “The Songs” is a treat for his fans, a great new experience for his new listeners, and an album worth sinking your teeth into.
