More often than not, films tend to be derailed for many reasons that we’re often unaware of. The Runaway’s film was actually derailed because of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, which was revealed today.
Drew Pearce, screenwriter for The Runaways, has stated that the film could in fact come back as a part of Marvel Studios up and coming third phase. Pearce told The Hollywood Reporter “We were really close to being made, and then this movie started to happen called The Avenger’s. Oddly, it pulled focus from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did kind of consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s there. Maybe it’ll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so. I’m really proud of it and I think it’ll be a brilliant film, but I think it all depends what Kevin Feige , the president of Marvel, what his master plan is.”
Brian K Vaughan, who is the writer for The Runaways, is also working with Adrian Alphona, who is the artist on the project. Pearce actually went and worked on the script for Iron Man 3.
