ABC Deletes ‘Selfie’

Looks like the Selfie is now obsolete.

The freshman comedy, which starred Guardians of the Galaxy’s Karen Gillan and Star Trek‘s John Cho, received the axe this morning, November 7, by the Alphabet network.

According to Entertainment Weekly, ABC made the decision based on declining ratings— which weren’t stellar to begin with. Selfie will come to an end in a few weeks, with no more episodes to be filmed and no word yet on the final episode number.

The comedy— a modern twist on My Fair Lady— follows Eliza Dooley, a socialite and social media sensation who, after an embarrassing incident goes viral, decides she needs to learn how to cope in real life rather than through emojis and hashtags. It came from the mind of Suburgatory creator Emily Kapnek. Despite its charming leads, Selfie was just a passing trend and not a viral hit.

The network recently axed Selfie’s lead-in, Manhattan Love Story, and replaced it with a double helping of the now-defunct show. Fans of Forever received better news this afternoon, when ABC granted the procedural a full-season order.
