In May, critics and viewers were surprised to find a show about a talking dog to be complex and quite funny. Downward Dog was released on a Wednesday night time-slot and built a small reputation for being eccentric and one of a kind. The show is shrouded in more surprise now, as ABC announced the show is being canceled.
On Friday, the show’s creators Samm Hodges and Michael Killen took to Twitter to announce the show’s cancellation. The release states ABC loved the concept, but did not have the financial capabilities to move forward with the show.

Hodges not only is a creator in the series but is the voice of Martin the dog, who the sitcom follows during everyday activities; except Martin is not your everyday dog, and shares with the audience his profound insights on his life as well as his owner Nan. Nan is played by Allison Tolman. Tolman also posted on twitter regarding her sadness in the cancellation.
To all #downwarddog fans, simply put- we wouldn’t be us without you. Thanks for getting us. Bark bark. https://t.co/cK6DPIXMkx
