How do you make the Pitch Perfect sequel even more aca-awesome than the original? By casting the real-life acapella group, Pentatonix! That’s right, the winners of the second season of The Sing-Off will go mic to mic with the Barden Bellas in an acapella battle for the ages! After wowing TV audiences with their distinctive acapella dubstep style, the five-person group went on to become a popular presence on YouTube and tour around the world. Members Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan, Kirstie Maldonado, and Kevin Olusola recently spent a single day filming in Baton Rouge, getting acquainted with their unique wardrobe. “We’re wearing some pretty interesting things,” said Hoying. “You can definitely tell it’s the five of us, but what we’re wearing and who we’re portraying is definitely not Pentatonix.” Grassi added: “You’re going to love it.” While the Pentatonix won’t be playing themselves in the film, they arranged their songs in order to retain their special sound. “They gave us a song, and we arranged it and sent it back, expecting them to say, ‘You need to change this, this, and this.’ But they came back and said, ‘Great, that’s it!’ That was really cool.” The sequel will fast forward to Becca (Anna Kendrick) and Fat Amy’s (Rebel Wilson) senior year at Barden University, where they’ll be joined by familiar faces, as well as a few new ones. True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld is a newbie to the national championship-winning group. While fans have to wait until 2015 for the film’s release, there is plenty of Pentatonix material to fall in love with in the meantime!
