Rain Varela Academy Award winning director Malik Bendjelloul has been found dead in Stockholm, Sweden.
He was 36 years old.
Local police did not report the cause of death, but told the newspaper Expressen that there is no suspicion that crime was involved.
Born in Sweden on September 4, 1977, Bendjelloul first found fame as a child actor in his native Sweden, when he was 12, he appeared in the children’s TV series Ebba och Didrik.
He is best remembered for his documentary Searching For Sugar Man, which won him the 2013 Academy Award for Best Documentary feature.
The film follows two men from Cape Town; Stephen ‘Sugar’ Segerman and Craig Bartholomew Strydom, who are devoted fans of American musician Sixto Rodriguez. The documentary chronicles their effort to find out whether the rumour that Sixtor Rodriguez is dead is true or not.
