There will be a shake up on the judges’ panel for season 13 of American Idol.
New judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj (who have been known on the show for their bickering) have both announced that they are not returning to the competition show and will instead focus on their music.
Carey has plans to head out on a world tour following the success of her new single “Beautiful.”
Minaj took to Twitter Thursday to announce her resignation, “time to focus on the music.”
The bigger news is that Randy Jackson, who has been on the show for a whopping twelve years will also not be returning! “I just think I’ve been through a lot of iterations of the show,” he says.
The only judge who has plans to stay on is country singer Keith Urban. “I literally enjoy coming to work every day,” he said of his time on the show. “That’s a rarity.”
There will be some familiar additions though.
Jennifer Hudson has been signed on to the next season of the show. The Grammy- winner placed seventh when she was on the show back in 2003.
There’s also a rumor circulating that Adam Lambert is also headed back to judge.
Lambert recently said that he would love to become a judge on the show if asked.
“Dude if they called me, I’d be like, ‘Yeah, where do I sign?’ It would be very cool. It would be exciting,” The second runner up of season eight stated. “It would be a really cool opportunity to help people coming into the show and to help them keep their vision focused because it does become overwhelming.”
While there’s no word as to whether he is actually joining or not, it is a certainly going to be a change, one that might bring more talent to the show.
Auditions are currently being held for the next season of American Idol.
