Mark your calendars for the return of one of the most beloved television families to our regularly scheduled programming! That’s right, the Kardashians are back June 8th on E!.
You may ask, “PopWrapped, don’t we usually get a KUWTK premiere in June, not a return from hiatus?” Very perceptive, PopWrappers! If you recall, last season ended right on schedule with the normal summer-to-the-holidays ratings boost E! has received for the prior three seasons. However, after an intimate Christmas special involving fake lottery tickets and neck fat exercisers, E! had to bring the show back for numerous reasons.
Things were just starting to get awkward between Khloe and estranged husband Lamar Odom, and after Kim gave birth to baby North, that was the next “storyline” to exploit on the show. The season 8 finale aired in November, the Christmas special in December, and allegations of Lamar entering rehab had been reported as early as October! The “reality show” reality is that we are always watching events take place that have already occurred, imagining the outcome and reading tabloids to “get the scoop” before it airs, but things were happening too fast for the network to wait until the summer for season 9.
We rang in 2014 and E! hit us hard with the premiere in January, juxtaposing Khloe’s dissolving marriage, Bruce and Kris Jenner’s separation, and the impending nuptials between Kim and Kanye. After only seven episodes, including a “grandstand” two-episode marriage proposal from West, E! gave the KUWTK clan a much needed break while they refilled their reserves – and also filmed the next spin-off Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons.
The released promo for the second half of season 9 displays clips from the past seven years of trials and tribulations while the apropos song lyrics play: “Can we go right back to the start? This year, has been the best and the worst year. I hear it’s all uphill from here.” Are you excited for the return of pop culture royalty/fodder? Watch the promo below and let us know!
