One of the highlights of the ABC series Marvel's Agent Carter is the depth of detail the production goes to in order to completely immerse us in 1940's America. From the vintage cars and language to the elaborate sets, Agent Carter takes us back in time. But most impressive is the fashion. Peggy Carter has a style all her own that tells the story of a confident, beautiful and strong woman that viewers will always want in their corner. Her clothes are always elegant, a little understated and practical to keep her ready for whatever is thrown her way.
If you want to bring a little Peggy into your wardrobe, you're in luck because every week, I'll be here to help you achieve Agent Carter's vintage look. The clothes featured in Agent Carter's Closet are all off-the-rack, available online and won't break the bank. With these outfits, you won't need to know how to sew or track down someone on Etsy to make an item for you.
As much as we would all love to have access to the brilliant costumers behind Agent Carter's outfits, us normal folks will just have to make do with what's available to us in stores. I will do my best, every week, to assemble outfits that best reflect Agent Carter's costumes from each episode. Remember, they won't be an exact replica but they will be in the spirit of Peggy Carter.
First up, we're featuring outfits from part one of the season 2 premiere, The Lady In The Lake. Peggy's casual traveling outfit is something you can easily incorporate into your own wardrobe. The high waisted, loose fitting sailor trousers are an iconic image whenever we think of casual, 40's era women's fashion. Peggy wears them with a steel blue, button down top, a brown wrap around belt and she gives the outfit a splash of her signature red with some stylish sunglasses.
For my version, I found the trousers on a fantastic vintage clothing site called Unique Vintage and they will only cost you $58.00! The top is a basic, button down 3/4 sleeve shirt in sky blue and costs $24.00 through Amazon. The dark brown, faux leather wrap belt is also from Amazon and only $8.40. The shoes are Oxford-inspired Aerosoles I found on Zappos for $69.00. And also from Unique Vintage are the Cherry Red Overlarge Retro Cat Eye Sunglasses for $18.00. The handbag is by Fashion Road and can be purchased through Amazon for $30.00.
Next, we have Peggy's gorgeous red cocktail outfit she wore to an afternoon at the races. Hayley Atwell is stunning in red and she can rock a fishtail skirt like nobody's business. Her accessories are absolutely to die for with a simple but stylish hat, a red handbag and two-tone red and white pumps.
For our day at the races, I found an adorable vintage style red dress from Miusol with a fishtail skirt and short sleeves. You can purchase the dress through Amazon for only $32.00. The hat is from The Red Hat Society By Luke Song and it is a classic wide brim derby hat with a rose embellishment. Finding the right kind of hat was challenging because I had to take into consideration the shade of red, the style and the cost. Nice hats at a reasonable price are difficult to come by and it's especially challenging to find vintage-inspired hats that aren't covered with about ten birds worth of feathers. This hat was another Amazon find and costs $48.00. The handbag can also be found on Amazon and features a crocodile pattern in vibrant red for only $22.00. The shoes are probably my best find; they are by Chelsea Crew and look strikingly similar to the ones Peggy is wearing in the episode. The shoes are called Vivacious Vibes and the color is crimson. The shoes can be purchased for $69.99 at ModCloth.
I hope you got as inspired as I did to go shopping and add a little vintage flair to your wardrobe! Keep your eyes peeled, I'll be back later this week with outfits from part 2 of the season premiere, A View In The Dark.
