Agent Peggy Carter Takes Center Stage In New Marvel One-Shot!

The Marvel Universe is full of BAMF ladies.

We have Pepper Potts who runs a multi-billion dollar corporation and still controls Tony Stark. Doctor Betty Ross was able to calm down the Hulk and is a genius. Doctor Jane Foster is trying to open a rift between worlds and makes her own equipment. Her assistant, Darcy Lewis, tased Thor. Natasha Romanov is a super secret spy, former assassin and an Avenger. Maria Hill is Colonel Nick Fury’s right hand lady.

BAMFs. All of them are just BAMFs.

My favorite Marvel lady though? It has to be SSR Agent Peggy Carter hands down.

In Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter was all command and strong presence. She chased down HYDRA agents. She shot at cars. She stared down chauvinistic soldiers. If she was jealous? She shot at you rather than go cry about it.  And? Not a hair was out of place and her red lipstick was perfectly applied.

If you’re as big of an Agent Peggy Carter fan as I am, then you are going to be super excited by this news.

Marvel One-Shots are little side stories that take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first two one-shots, which appeared on the DVDs/Blu-Rays of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, focused on how badass Phil Coulson is. Both shorts were insanely popular. They also led to the longer and entertaining Item 47 on the DVD/Blu-Ray of The Avengers.

Now Marvel One-Shots are a legit deal. At last year’s San Diego Comic Con, there was a scavenger hunt that led to tickets for a secret viewing of Item 47Item 47 was also the clinching factor in getting Disney chairman and CEO Robert Iger to order Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.

The latest one-shot? According to Entertainment Weekly, it’s going to feature Agent Peggy Carter doing what she does best: being awesome.

We rejoin Agent Carter one year after Steve disappeared into the ice. She is still working for the SSR, who are tracking down the mysterious “Zodiac”.

Marvel Studios co-president, Louis D’Esposito, who also directed Item 47, will direct Agent Carter.

D’Esposito said to Entertainment Weekly“First of all it’s a period piece. You have three fight scenes as opposed to Item 47, where we just had basically one action scene. We had five days – one more day than we did on Item 47 but I think it’s double in size. And also the visual style of it, that requires time. So there was pressure on us. I have people looking over my shoulder, looking at the watch saying, ‘Come on, you’re costing us a lot of money!’”

Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter in the short. Dominic Cooper will reprise his role of Howard Stark alongside Atwell.

The “main” villain of the piece will be Zodiac. Just who is Zodiac? Well, that’s a bit trickier.

“Zodiac in the books has been many, many different things,” D’Esposito said. “We just want you to know it’s deadly, it’s important, bad guys are guarding it, and it’s imperative she gets it.”

Agent Carter will have other things to deal with besides the Zodiac. She’s going to have to deal with bashing in the glass ceiling at work as well.

The West Wing’s Bradley Whitford will play SSR agent Flynn, who is less than nice to her.

“He knows her background but insults her by saying the only reason why she’s gotten anywhere is because she was the girlfriend of Captain America,” said D’Esposito. “We know that’s not true, but he’s intentionally suppressing her and not allowing her to go on a mission when the opportunity arises.”

Of course, in true Agent Carter form, she will go around the boys club and after the Zodiac on her own.

“She proves that the best man for the job was a woman,” D’Esposito said.

Agent Carter will be included on the DVDs/Blu-Rays of Iron Man 3 on September 24th. If you’re going to be at San Diego Comic Con this year, then be on the look out! Marvel will host a special secret screening of the short.
