Months ago, it was revealed that a beloved character from the iconic animated series The Simpsons will be dying. Over the last few months, we’ve been getting little clues as to who it might be: the voice actor won an Emmy for playing the character, and both Hank Azaria and Kelsey Grammer have confirmed it will not be one of their characters that will be killed off. Now showrunner Al Jean has dropped some more hints, and even compared the episode to a recent episode of Game of Thrones.
“This is going to be a bigger deal than King Joffrey on Game of Thrones – the Yellow Wedding!” said Jean. He claims that the character is not necessarily iconic, but “a great character.” The death will occur in the Season 26 premiere.
Jean also mentions how many people on the internet have correctly guessed the identity of the dying character. He doesn’t rule out that the character may never appear again–most likely in non-canon Halloween episodes or dream sequences.
Executive Producer Matt Selman stated that he told the performer, “This does not mean the end of your participation in The Simpsons,” leading several Simpsons fans to speculate that either Sideshow Bob or Rabbi Krustofski will die. Kelsey Grammer has denied Sideshow Bob will get the axe, so that leaves either Jackie Mason’s Rabbi Krustofski or Anne Hathaway’s Princess Penelope on the chopping block. But with a cast of over 200 characters, anyone could get the ax.
Until we find out who dies, let the speculations continue!
