Amazon Prime Now Offers Great Video Game Savings

Break open your piggy bank and sign up for Amazon Prime! Members now get 20% off video games up to two weeks from their release!

If you’ve decided to shell out a bit of your pocket change for an Amazon Prime membership, you’re about to get even sweeter benefits.

Amazon’s $99 service normally gets you free two-day shipping on select items (and there are A LOT of select items). There’s even one-click ordering for the compulsive shoppers among us. If you’ve been holding off on breaking your piggy bank for the massive online titan that is Amazon, you may want to break out the hammer.

According to Tech Insider, Amazon is giving its Prime members 20% off all new video games up to two weeks after the game is released. This promotion also includes pre-ordered games.

Yup, you read that right: all new video games and pre-ordered games!

Well … not ALL video games. Amazon is only applying this deal to physical games for consoles (PS4 and Xbox One). This is great for cased games that usually run upwards of $60, bringing them down to $50 or below. Unfortunately, it does not look like downloadable content and handheld console games will be included.

With Amazon’s Prime service combining most of its goodies into one dapper hand basket (videos, music, free shipping, need we go on?), this newest move is a great marketing strategy. Not only do Prime members get access to Amazon’s vast multimedia library of products and the occasional product discount on top of their free two-day shipping, they also spend more time shopping. According to Business Insider Intelligence, Amazon Prime members spend more time and money online than anyone else. This means that Amazon is making more off of its Prime members than just the $99 annual fee, even with their free services.

Amazon Prime’s 20% gamer discount has brought the titan into direct competition with Best Buy’s own Gamers Club Unlocked program, which offers the same 20% discount on new and pre-ordered games as long as customers purchase a two-year membership for $30.

On the surface, the math seems to lean in favor of Best Buy’s deal but, considering the convenience of Amazon, maybe not.

While Amazon’s new discount program doesn’t get a cool club name like Best Buy, the discount is automatically applied at checkout. But before you go looking for a good deal from a third party seller, keep in mind Amazon’s discount will only be applied to games bought or pre-ordered through Amazon.

The program is extended to new and existing Prime members, with free release day delivery and pre-order price guarantee.

So what are you waiting for? There are a TON of awesome games coming out this year, and they are not going to pre-order themselves!
