Staff WriterAnd just like last night: It's very evident that this season is going to be great!! "American Idol" returned last night for it's 13th season, and with a brand new judging panel (including the returning Keith Urban, the triumphant return of Jennifer Lopez and the amazing casting of Harry Connick Jr.) the show is seemingly back on track. Last night gave us some great auditions, and it was back to business with another 2 full hours chalked full of performances.... And laughs!! The search continued in Austin, Texas as the judges were on the look for a superstar!! One of the first contestants of the night, Megan Miller, managed to get a golden ticket after belting out the highest earning Idol Carrie Underwood's "Last Name". Megan's vocals had the judges concerned that her using her upper register at all times could result in her blowing out her voice, but she reassured them. And the reassuring worked!!! The hits just kept on coming as 19 year old Spencer Lloyd channeled former Idol contestant Colton Dixon, and had our diva judge already fawning. Jennifer Lopez was quite smitten with the young man, and while Harry and Keith had their reservations, all 3 judges unanimously put Spencer through to Hollywood. The show hit a bump though. Rick Rowling entered the room with in jean shorts, red suspenders, and sunglasses determined to make a mark. And he did. Just not the one he was hoping for. The contestant began making jokes about previous judges and then attempted to sing the Rick Astley classic "Never Gonna Give You Up", but was quickly cut off by Harry. Harry informed the contestant he wasn't impressed with his lack of seriousness and told him the audition was over. It was back to the game though, and the next contestant really brought it. T.K. Hash brought the judges to fits of laughter with his President Obama impersonation, but it was his rendition of the Fall Out Boy song "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark" that really impressed. He was given the golden ticket and was moving on to Hollywood! Time for a throwback!! Contestant Tristen Langley was joined in front of the judges by his mom..... Season 1 3rd runner-up Nikki McKibbin watched as her son belted out his audition, and after a no from Harry, our other two resident judges decided to to give Tristen a chance. The very first second generation Idol contestant has debuted!! You better believe I'll be following Tristen very closely! A huge treat came in the form of John, who we happened to see in the opening teaser for the episode. It cut before we could find out if the judges were going to give him a golden ticket. Belting out the classic "To Make You Feel My Love" by Bob Dylan, John blew the judges away and is quite possibly my favorite audition of the past 2 nights. So far. It was time to move on over to San Francisco!! After a great start, things turned a little bumpy with an audition by Ronald. The very confident young man attempted to perform for the 3 judges (one of whom he idolized, Miss Jennifer Lopez), but when she stopped his audition very quickly, the 3 judges brought him back down to Earth. The once confident Ronald crumbled in front of them and began crying, but it wasn't enough to sway the judges and he was sent home. It appeared for yours truly that the boys were really taking control of the show tonight, but all of that changed with an audition from twin sisters Selena and Sierra Moreno. Both ladies auditioned separately, and it was very evident that they both had talent. Unfortunately, the judges only had eyes for one of them. After critiques from the panel, they revealed that Selena had made it through, but Sierra wasn't going to Hollywood. The tears began flowing, but the sisterly love was there and Sierra was the one comforting Selena, when she was upset they wouldn't be together. The night was coming to a close, but not without one final audition: Adam Roth The "healer" shocked the judges with his very erratic cover of "Hallelujah", but ultimately, he received a "yes" from 2 of the judges (Harry being the hold out) and was given a chance to shine in Hollywood. That was it for the final night of the season premiere, and as of right now, the judges have handed out a whopping 79 golden tickets!! Until next week everyone.... What kind of insanity can we expect from Detroit??
