Your Top 16!!
Last night, "American Idol" unveiled it's Top 8 girls, which also meant (like the boys) we had to lose 4 talented singers. Now, yours truly once again agreed with some of America's picks....
But am quite shocked a one particular omission.
We'll get to that at the end.
The first girl through into the Top 8, and performing for Motown Week was....
Tyanna Jones - "Rockin Robin" by Michael Jackson
VERY happy to see Tyanna advance, and her vintage MJ performance was also a great way to kick off the show. Tyanna's playful energy paired with her vocals proved why she needs to be in this competition. Unfortunately, the night didn't continue to have the same infectious energy.
Things continued to roll on impressively once Ryan Seacrest announced the next performer:
Loren Lott - "I Wanna Be Where You Are" by Michael Jackson
Time for a powerhouse performance!!
Loren's vocals soared during yet another MJ performance. While I am a huge fan of Loren though, the performance did feel a tad theatrical which can be good or bad whichever way you. If her vocals continue at this speed?
She ain't going ANYWHERE!
Time for a surprise.
Maddie Walker - "I'll Be There" by the Jackson 5
Nice thoughts.....nice thoughts.......nice thoughts.....
Okay, so Maddie Walker is very talented and has a pretty powerful voice, unfortunately yours truly was not feeling this weeks vocal.
Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban hit the nail on the head when they brought up how nervous Maddie sounded, and while Harry Connick Jr. mentioned she was a tad sharp, all 3 judges enjoyed the performance.
Yours truly however, did not. I'm not convinced Maddie belongs in the Top 16.
Keeping it real!!
The show kept rolling on though.
Joey Cook - "Shop Around" by The Miracles
VERY happy to see the unique Miss Cook advance!!!
Now for the bad part.
Joey is incredibly talented, and her take on the Miracles classic was good, but there's a difference between making a song your own and completely changing the sound. Joey 100% put her own spin on the classic tune, but it made it almost unrecognizable.
Back to the good parts though. Her demeanor and genuine shock that she made it through was incredibly endearing and I'm excited to see what she does next.

Sarina Joi Crowe - "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" by The Miracles

Absolutely stunning vocal, but like Joey, it was almost unrecognizable. Sarina's abilities on that stage should carry her on throughout the competition. With that high range and signature growl, she may be one of the front runners for the ladies.
We werere getting closer to the reveal of the complete top 8, and there was still one omission that was making yours truly VERY nervous. Can you figure out who that is?
Up next?
Adanna Duru - "Hello" by Lionel Richie
When you expect an artist to bring their usual energy onstage, and they throw you for a loop by performing a ballad, that is NOT a bad thing. Adanna left her mark all over the Motown stage, and while Harry mentioned she was completely out of tune, I didn't hear that. Different sound in the venue then what comes across on the TV?
There were only 2 spots left.....
And the second last goes to:
Jax - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terell
Okay, now I'm torn.
Jax has been THE front runner for the ladies for me this entire season thus far, but last nights performance fell flat in a BIG way. While Joey and Sarina's vocals were making their performances unrecognizable, Jax destroyed the original arrangement, thus ruining her performance. She's got something none of the other girls in the competition have, and I want to see her use that, but not at the expense of the track.
This was a major miss for yours truly
It was time for the final spot, and that went to:
Alexis Gomez - "I Can't Help Myself" by the Four Tops
As you can tell by the words above, NOT IMPRESSED.
Let's get through Alexis' performance before I truly vent.
Her "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" sweet performance was just that, sweet. It was neither memorable nor groundbreaking, and I'm going to leave it at that.
HOW DID SHI SCOTT NOT MAKE THE TOP 8!??! We also had to say goodbye Shannon Berthiaume, Lovey James and Katherine Winston but I'm really broken up over Shi saying goodbye. Maybe a Wildcard spot? What did you guys think of Motown Week?
