@ShaneAveryAnother night jam packed with performances!! The final 3 of this season's American Idol were given hometown welcomes, but it was all about tonight as they each sang 3 songs for America's vote. They would sing the Judges' Choice, Hometown Choice, and Randy Jackson's Choice. It was also a VERY special evening as the show was celebrating it's milestone 500th episode!! After a stellar intro featuring previous winners, contestants, and ALL the former judges! So how would the evening play out? Well, dramatically of course. A doctor actually came out and informed us all that Caleb was actually suffering from a mild case of bronchitis , and struggled a lot during his rehearsal. Interesting way to kick things off. Let's see how he does!! First round is
Randy Jackson's Pick! 1. Caleb Johnson - "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS Not really sure how current this is Randy, but GREAT song choice either way! Now, you could definitely Caleb was being very careful with his vocals, but this performance? Absolutely AMAZING!!!! I have to give Randy credit because the song was perfect for Caleb and he really managed to make it his own. All I can say is bravo to Caleb for really digging deep even through the pain. 2. Alex Preston - "Pompeii" by Bastille Randy is on fire with song selection tonight. Minus a little glitch with a microphone (totally not his fault by the way), I really felt this was very strong and I have to praise Alex for how he handled the performance as a whole. The drum playing, and then taking time to interact with the audience was a side from Alex we haven't seen before. I truly thought this was one of his best performances. 3. Jena Irene - "Titanium" by David Guetta/Sia BIG song! This was once again a stellar performance from our last girl standing, and that last note? Magic. Nobody really has the vocal range and sound that Sia does, but Jena owned the track and I really enjoyed it. But round 1 has to go to someone right? I'm giving it to......CALEB! Sickness or not, I felt Caleb owned the first round even though Jena and Alex both did a great job. Time for round 2 though, and it's now
Judges' Choice! So what did they give Caleb? 1. Caleb Johnson - "Demons" by Imagine Dragons You know, I have to give this guy so much credit. There were definitely moments where you could hear the sickness, but Caleb pushed through it and gave us another killer vocal. Was it the usual powerful Caleb? No. But he really managed to find his way through it. I am really looking forward to his final performance, and seeing how he ends the night. 2. Alex Preston - " Stay" by Rihanna I was completely sold by the very first note. Take my word on this, and let me STATE: Best performance of the night so far, and Alex's personal best in the entire competition. That's all I can really say. 3. Jena Irene - "Heart Attack" by Demi Lovato I have to some good and some bad. The good is that she sounded great (as usual) but my problem is that I felt she couldn't really add her own spin on the song, so it felt a tad safe. Did that make sense? I love this girl, and want her to really showcase the killer voice she has, but this left me wanting more. And finally,
Hometown Pick! 1. Caleb Johnson - "Dazed & Confused" by Led Zeppelin Vocal problems? WHAT VOCAL PROBLEMS!?!? Holy crap WOW. That's all I've got after Caleb just ripped the stage to shreds, and broke a mic stand in the process!! Jennifer and Keith were on their feet seconds into the performance , while Harry had a permanent smile on his face throughout. I'm going to steal the line from Jennifer: THIS WAS BANANAS!!!!!! JEEEEEEEZE. Stellar!! 2. Alex Preston - "Story of My Life" by One Direction Perfect song choice!! Alex has performed it before, and it was even better the second time around. I really felt the emotion was there, and the vocal was completely ON. I still think his 2nd song was his performance of the night, but this was still great. 3. Jena Irene - "Creep" Radiohead THERE is the Jena I remember. I've enjoyed her performances tonight but something felt like it was missing until now. Jena's vocals SOARED throughout her Radiohead cover and I can't praise it enough. She pushed herself and never wavered. Another stellar job and I'm afraid for tomorrow night. Who do you guys think will make the finale? And who will fall short just ONE WEEK before the end? I'm not even going to try and guess. I'm scared. Keep Up With PopWrapped On The Web!
