As Les Revenants (internationally known as The Returned) managed to become one of the most talked-about international dramas, there were lots of expectations for the Stateside remake, The Returned. However, we won’t see any more of the series, since A&E has announced its cancellation.

There is no denying that Les Revenants left viewers stunned, but a lot of people couldn’t bear watching a subtitled French show – yup, this was actually an excuse. Those were the ones desparately in need of an English-speaking version of the series. Even though The Returned seemed promising while in the works, with the case and everything, it didn’t turn out to be the spectacle its source was. The show managed to stay close to the original material, but still something felt off from the very beginning and of course, that was obvious in the ratings as well. Therefore, the news of its cancellation didn’t hit as any kind of shock.

If you were a fan of the U.S. adaptation of Les Revenants and haven’t watched the original series, that’s just what you need to do. Having watched the first seasons of both, it is quite obvious that The Returned falls rather flat in comparison. Not to mention that the mind-blowing supernatural drama is returning with a second season this coming fall. Still having doubts?
