Lee Daniels is riding high right now. His latest film Lee Daniels’ The Butler not only is the number one movie in America, it’s gotten rave reviews and getting some early Oscar buzz. You would think the acclaimed director (who previously received an Oscar nomination for directing Precious) would want to take a break and let it all sink in. However that is not the case and Daniels has already found his latest project; he’s set direct a Janis Joplin biopic with Academy Award nominee Amy Adams as the legendary singer.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Daniels said about the Joplin project that it was his next film “for sure”. He commented, “I had no idea Janis Joplin was so smart — intellectual, even. Look, some of the smartest people in the world have been drug addicts.” While some may seem hesitant with Adams playing the out of control rocker Daniels is reassured saying, “Guess what? She can sing her ass off!” Adams has proved to be a singer in her previous work such as Enchanted and last year’s The Muppets.
