Oprah Winfrey will be awarded The Hollywood Reporter
’s Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, which recognizes a woman who is a pioneer and leader in her industry.
could not be better suited to receive this prestigious award as a woman who was the host of TV’s top-rated talk show for 25 years, is CEO of the Oprah Winfrey Network, and is currently receiving Oscar buzz for her role as Gloria Gaines in critically-acclaimed historical drama Lee Daniels's The Butler
. She has also provided substantial support through her many philanthropic endeavors such as her charities The Oprah Winfrey Foundation and Oprah’s Angel Network.
There is no doubt that Oprah is deserving of this award as she exemplifies a pioneer and leader.
The award will be presented to her by her friend, journalist and activist Maria Shriver, at The Hollywood Reporter
Annual Women in Entertainment Breakfast on December 11th
at the Beverley Hills Hotel in LA. This event is concurrent with the publication of THR
’s ‘Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Entertainment’ list, which Oprah has been on numerous times.
Last years recipient of the award was Diane Keaton and previous recipients include Dame Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Jane Fonda, Jodie Foster, Halle Berry, Glenn Close, and Barbara Walters.
Sherry Lansing said on Oprah being given the award: “When I learned that Oprah had agreed to accept the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, I was both thrilled and humbled. No one exemplifies leadership and professional distinction more than Oprah. Her transformative work as a media entrepreneur and as a philanthropist has set the bar extremely high for generations to come. The Hollywood Reporter could not have chosen to honor a more deserving individual than Oprah.”
