A recent study claims that ‘123456’ has now taken the crown for world’s worst password. Website SplashData said the six-digit figure has replaced its predecessor, yes you guessed it, ‘password’ as the most used and now worst password of 2013.
New entries including ‘adobe123’ and ‘photoshop’ have made their way onto the list, after an attack on Adobe back in October, which caused the publication of passwords and encrypted payment information for 2.9 million customers.
Passwords such as ‘letmein’, ‘monkey’, and ‘trustno1’ were in decline last year, coming in at 14, 17, and 24 on the list. SplashData has recommended users go for a password with a mix of characters, and one with eight or more in length.
The site has also recommended avoiding the same username and password combinations across multiple websites.
