Andy Cohen, who has hosted Miss Universe twice, will not be returning to host this year. The pageant will be held in Russia.
Due to the recent laws and policy towards the LGBT community there, Cohen says that he does not feel comfortable going there to host.
Cohen told E! News, “Their discriminatory policies make it unsafe for the gays who live there and gay coming to work or visit.”
He then added, “The law s that anyone under suspicion of homosexuality can be arrested.” Talk about harsh.
Standing strong by the LGBT community, the host of Watch What Happens Live also said that he “didn’t feel right as a gay man stepping into Russia.”
As for now, the pageant is being held on November 9 at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow. There has been a petition launched to move it elsewhere due to the discriminating policies in Russia. This includes a new law which bans the discussion of gay rights and relationships where children may hear it.
The pageant definitely won’t be as fabulous without Mr. Cohen hosting. A replacement host has not be announced yet.
