There is something special about Angela Lansbury – her fierce talent, her warm smile and the appearance of being our grandmother. That’s why it makes sense for Queen Elizabeth to give Lansbury the highest order – a damehood.
Angela was announced as a recipient of the great honor at the end of last year, but it was only today that she finally became one at the celebration at Windsor Castle, where the title was bestowed upon Angela by Queen Elizabeth II.Dame Angela had this to say about her selection to become a dame of the British Empire: “It is a very proud day for me to be recognized by the country of my birth, and to meet the Queen under these circumstances is a rare and lovely occasion.”This tremendous honor came only a short while after she received another monumental honor – an Honorary Academy Award (where she was honored in November last year, along with Steve Martin, Piero Tosi and Angelina Jolie). Dame Angela said, comparing the two honors: “One is for my work in motion pictures and this is for the overall accomplishments of my life as an actress.
No one is more deserving of this honor than Angela Lansbury, who has been in the entertainment business for over seventy years, and she is still going strong, currently performing in Blithe Spirit on the West End.
