On Friday, Anonymous called for an internet blackout on protest of CISPA, which passed the House of Representatives on Thursday. If it was to be signed into a law, CISPA would make it legal for websites to give the government your personal information without your consent. As if we don’t deal with enough in terms of privacy issues, now they want to make sure that nothing that’s ours will ever stay safe again in terms of information.
Their website went black for 24 hours this past Monday in protest of the bill that’s trying to get passed. The plan was that all websites go dark on Monday for 24 hours in protest. This idea makes sense. It has worked in the past.
On January 18, 2012 well over 7,000 websites protested SOPA. Anyone worth their brain know how that went down, and I could only hope that maybe we could succeed once again. I do my best to stay away from the topic of politics, but this just doesn’t sit well with me. Why in the world does our government need anymore access than they already have? I don’t know about the rest of you, but I would like to maintain some small amount of privacy that I may or may not have left.
