According to BBC News, Arcade Fire has been confirmed as the first headline act at next year’s Glastonbury Festival.
The indie rock band tweeted a picture, adding “June 27-Glastonbury,” under it. Later on, there was an official statement on the Glastonbury Festival website, which read, “We’re very pleased to announce that Arcade Fire will headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2014, on Friday February 27th June.”
Lead singer Win Butler told Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, “It’s such a communal rite of passage in the UK. Just on a musical level, we’re super-excited to strap on our wellies and let it rip.”
Butler also jokingly said, “The Friday is going to be a gorgeous, California sunshine day- if it’s not, we’ll refund your ticket.”
Arcade Fire also hit the top of the UK album charts in November with their fourth album, Reflektor.
Lily Allen was also confirmed last month that she will be performing on the final day of the event, and there are several acts that are rumored to be appearing as well. Fleetwood Mac, Prince, Daft Punk and Kanye West are among the other performers, none having played the festival before.
The music fest that just passed was at Worthy Farm in Somerset and was headlined by the Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys and Mumford and Sons.
The 2014 fest will be taking place from June 25-29 of 2014, but tickets have already sold out.
