Singers Jessie J and Ariana Grande were able to get a chart topping hit when they collaborated on ‘Bang, Bang’ and it seems the vocal duo are hoping to keep that success going with a remake of the 90’s r&b hit ‘ The Boy is Mine.’  The Grammy award winning song was previously sung by Brandy and Monica and sold over 3 million copies.

In an interview with Hits Daily Double, producer Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins revealed that he is planning on a special project that will compile new versions, as well as the originals, of hit songs he’s produced.

“Next year is my 20-year anniversary and I’m doing a very special project. Some originals as well as reimagined hits. So for example, I’ll do the “The Boy Is Mine” with Ariana and Jesse J. Sam is doing “It’s Not Right It’s Okay” by Whitney Houston, which Sam told me was the song that made him want to sing. When I asked him if he’d be a part of this project he was like, “No one else can do that song but me!” Sam’s the truth. He has a great heart and he’s genuine. His music speaks for who he is. This is a project I’m really looking forward to.”

Fans of the song did not take the news of this remake positively and are ready to tear the remake to shreds. I’m a firm believer of “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it,” but I’m also looking forward to hearing a new take on some of the classics that I grew up loving.

Say what you want about both of these ladies, but they are considered as some of the most promising voices of a generation that has gotten used to thinking autotune equals talent. Jessie and Ariana have both praised Brandy and Monica as influences, in the past, and we should all think of this remake as a tribute rather than a epic fail in the making.
