Arthur Darvill, 31, will be returning as Reverend Paul Coates for a second series of ITV’s Broadchurch.
“I’m meant to be doing the next series,” Darvill told BBC America. “But I actually don’t know…whether that’s an episode or a whole series.”
The eight-part drama originally aired on ITV, but was also acquired in January by BBC America. It centres on a small coastal town that becomes the centre of controversy after the mysterious murder of an 11-year-old boy. The show’s ensemble includes top British talent such as ex-Doctor Who star David Tennant and Tyrannousaur’s Olivia Colman.
“I’m in touch with the production company and my agent, [but] it’s quite nice not knowing because I really can’t give anything away,” added Darvill. “I’d quite like to find out soon so I can plan my life!”
At the Edinburgh Television Festival in August, ITV’s director of TV Peter Fincham confirmed that series two would not be “a formulaic repeat of series one.”
Broadchurch actor Will Mellor also added that it may be a completely new scenario.
“Maybe it’ll be a prequel, it might go back to the old case that David Tennant’s character didn’t finish. Whatever it’ll be, it’ll be fantastic,” he said.
An American remake of Broadchurch was announced last month and will air sometime next year, along with the second round of the original series.
