Today Tim Lambesis, founder and vocalist of the metalcore band As I Lay Dying, found out that perhaps trying to hire an ex-policeman to kill his wife was not exactly the best way of ending his marriage. He was taken into custody by the San Diego police on Tuesday after they had been informed about Lambesis’ attempt to hire an undercover detective to murder his estranged wife Meggan, who is believed to have filed for divorce towards the end of last year.

“The information came to us late last week,” Jan Caldwell, spokeswoman for the San Diego Sheriff’s Department told Reuters. “We acted quickly on it. I believe that we averted a great tragedy.”

No further details have been released, and As I Lay Dying’s record label has not released a statement yet. The arrest went “without incident”, but it is clear that both the vocalist and his band are in big trouble, as crimes like these, if found guilty, can lead to many years in prison.

The band was formed in 2000 by Tim Lambesis and Jordan Mancino, and have met numerous successes. They have released six albums, of which the latest one, An Ocean Between Us, reached the 8th position on the Billboard charts. They have only recently returned from a tour in Asia, and were scheduled to tour through the US with a few other metal bands.

Lambesis is expected to appear in court for an arrangement this Wednesday or Thursday, so more news will follow soon!
