Ash vs Evil Dead concluded its first season with an army of dedicated fans similarly to those who showed dedication to the original films - and season 2 will be no different. The cast and creators of the popular Starz series attended Ballroom 20 at San Diego Comic Con for a panel on all things Ash vs Evil Dead and we learned a little bit more about what’s to come on the sophomore season of the horror/comedy series. For starters, that Army of Darkness movie that people fawn over? Well we’ll finally get some confirmation of the events of the film. The series executive producer Rob Tapert explains, “We actually can reference [Army of Darkness] and we reference it in this coming season. We just don’t pull upon that universe, but this coming season Ash is able to talk about events that happened in Army of Darkness, although people are not likely to believe him, of course.”
The panelists were quick to show gratitude and appreciation from the Starz network for taking a chance on a niche fanbase and admitted that they were given free reigns to exceed what the film’s 'R' rating had previously been. The series really wanted to up their game for the second season with Starz support and Sam Raimi (who is responsible for the Evil Dead franchise already) noted, “They want to produce content you can’t find anywhere else.” If any of you are wondering what the future holds for the Ash vs Evil Dead series, Raimi pleaded to the fans and convention attendees to push for both a third and fourth season renewal, also suggesting that viewers who pay the Starz subscription fee are what helps keep the hope alive for more Evil Dead. With enough information on next season and the Army of Darkness crossover material, all we need is something that suggests a connection to the Evil Dead reboot film from 2013!
Ash vs Evil Dead will air its second season in October on Starz, so make sure to binge watch the 10 episode first season before more gore and comedy commences soon enough! Are you ready for more of Ash’s adventures?
