On an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show set to air in its entirety this coming Wednesday, February 26th, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has announced that his wife, writer and actress Molly McNearney, is pregnant with the couple’s first child.
Kimmel, now 46, has two children from his previous marriage by the names of Kevin and Katie, both in their early twenties, and is now excitedly anticipating his third.
“I’ve really forgotten everything.” Kimmel said while speaking with DeGeneres, “It’s funny because I was just with some friends (John Krasinski & Emily Blunt) who just had a baby and I was like, ‘Oh yeah. And there’s new ways to do things.’”
Ever the comedian, Kimmel went on to speak of his two, grown children:
“I told my daughter, ‘Listen, there’s only so much love I have to give — you’re gonna have to split it up with the new kid. There’s a finite amount of love and that’s that,”
Kimmel also spoke of his age in regards to being a newly-reactivated parental unit:
“… It is very weird at my age. I’m going to be one of those old dads.”
He also talked about the baby’s gender, which the couple has elected to keep secret for now.
“I would like it to be a surprise and my wife was happy with that idea until about a week ago,” Kimmel stated, “She started saying we really need to find out. But I don’t think it matters. I don’t think you need to make the baby’s room blue or pink — it’s inherently ridiculous. I don’t think they can even see colors.”
Having someone like Jimmy Kimmel as a father would likely be a fun experience for any child, but the expected bundle of joy might take exception with Kimmel’s proposed middle name:
“I would like the baby’s middle name to be Effin, and not the curse version of it, like e-f-f-i-n. Like Ellen Effin DeGeneres. I mean, what a great name. Right?”
Kimmel remains hard at work on Jimmy Kimmel Live, alongside his wife McNearney, who acts as co-head-writer on the show. He also retains his reputation as a prankster, having released a video just this past month with his cohort, Olympic luger Kate Hansen, of a feral wolf roaming the halls during the now-notoriously shoddy Sochi Olympics.
