Bad Education will have its US remake with creator and star Jack Whitehall reprising his role as Alfie Wickers.
This adaptation will be titled An American Education and it has been picked up by ABC for a pilot order. Joining Whitehall as scriptwriter will be Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory [A Good Old Fashioned Orgy] and executive producer Ben Cavey.
Filming will start in January in Los Angeles.
Jack Whiteball tweeted:
gonna be all over Bad Ed US, there are great people involved and will do everything to not make it shit(we may fail in which case #awkward)
— Jack Whitehall (@jackwhitehall) November 9, 2013
He also said the British version will continue even if the US pilot becomes a full series: “Even if they pick it up (chances of this are v tiny) would not mean the end of Bad Ed UK!”.
Bad Education stars Jack Whitehall as young teacher Alfie Wickers, “the worst teacher ever to grace the British education system” at the fictional Abbey Grove School in Hertfordshire. At the time the series launch it broke BBC Three’s record for the highest-rated first episode comedy, beating Horne & Corden.
A Christmas special is set to air later this year on Channel 4.
