Former President Barack Obama and wife Michelle seem to really be enjoying their time out of the Oval Office! Just last month, pictures were released of Mr. Obama surfing while vacationing on Sir Richard Branson’s private Island with his wife. He also threw one of the most epic Superbowl parties for a former US President to date!
Adding to all that excitement, it was announced on Tuesday that the Obamas will be publishing their forthcoming books with Penguin Random House, one of the top publishing companies who coin themselves as "the world's first truly global trade book" publisher. The books were secured for a multi-million dollar deal -- a staggering $60 million+ to be exact. Some are saying these are record-breaking numbers -- comparing it to Bill Clinton's $15 million deal and George W. Bush's $10 million deal -- and possibly the most lucrative book deals of a former White House president and first lady ever in history. Everyone is waiting in anticipation for further details about the books, but, as of right now, that information has no set timeline. Penguin Random House CEO Markus Dohle released a statement about the book deal.
"We are absolutely thrilled to continue our publishing partnership with President and Mrs. Obama. With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same."
Obama already has two bestsellers under his belt. His autobiography Dreams from My Father was published in 2004 and The Audacity of Hope hit shelves in 2006.
"Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs. Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance," Dohle added.
The Obama Foundation and other charities will receive a portion of the books advances. The books have joint rights, although Mr. and Mrs. Obama will be publishing two separate books.
