Barbra Streisand has been in the industry for years and years, marking her as the best-selling female artist of all time. She is currently preparing to release her 34th studio album (39th overall), Partners. The record is filled with collaborations, as she takes assistance from male singers to put the duets together. In a couple of older tracks she revisits though, the partners are not the original ones and one of the new vocalists she joins forces with is John Legend.
The two artists team up on “What Kind Of Fool”, a track originally recorded by Streisand and Bee Gees singer, Barry Gibb, back in 1980. The revised version finds them singing beautifully together, with Legend bringing his best self to the table in honor of his collaboration with the great songstress. They sound great and totally not out of place. Bringing them together turned out to be a great idea.
The new version of the song was produced by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who said of working with the two artists:
Their mutual respect was evident from the start. When Barbra heard the passion in John’s vocal performance, it truly inspired the way she shaped her own vocals. As a record producer, sitting in the studio hearing these two magical voices playing off each other, pouring through the speakers, was an incredible feeling. There really are no words to explain the kind of emotion you feel when you realize you’re capturing that kind of lightning in a bottle.
Other singers the songstress collaborated with on this album include Blake Shelton, Michael Bublé, Stevie Wonder and even Elvis Presley! Here you can see the full tracklisting and take a listen to the John Legend-assisted tune.
