Batman: Bad Blood is the latest animated feature film to be released by Warner Brothers, and it looks amazing. The story follows up on another recent animated feature, Son of Batman, and will be based off of the post-Crisis, pre-New 52 versions of the characters. The official synopsis tells us that:
Bruce Wayne is missing. Alfred covers for him while Nightwing and Robin patrol Gotham City in his stead. And a new player, Batwoman, investigates Batman's disappearance.
The film will also feature Dick Grayson adapting the mantle of Batman in Bruce's absence, with Damian Wayne taking on the role of Robin. This is incredibly exciting for many comic book fans, myself included. Scott Snyder's The Black Mirror and Grant Morrison's Batman and Robin trades are among the best Batman stories told, and I am eager to see those characters translated to the screen.
In addition, Batman: Bad Blood will feature Batwoman, also a favourite. For quite some time she was one of DC's few lesbian superheroes, who turned to costume crime fighting after being forced to leave the military. There has been an animated feature starring Batwoman before, but this marks the first one featuring the same Batwoman as the comic books.
The movie will contain voice talents such as Jason O'Mara (Batman), Sean Maher (Nightwing), Yvonne Strahovski (Batwoman), Stuart Allan (Damian Wayne), Morena Baccarin (Talia al Ghul), Gaius Charles (Luke Fox), and Ernie Hudson (Lucius Fox). It will be released digitally on January 19, 2016, and on Blu-ray on February 2, 2016.
