Batman V Superman Actors Perfect Glowering Looks in New Posters

Two new quad posters are released displaying an epic battle from each protagonist’s perspective in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).

Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, Jesse Eisenberg, Holly Hunter, Jason Momoa, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane Batman V Superman is preparing to swoop in and shake up the superhero genre once again!

With Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice premiering on March 25, the publicity machine for the DC juggernaut is cranking into high gear! This week two new quad posters were released to accompany the latest trailer and IMAX poster from last week.

Each poster is from a different character’s perspective, and I honestly don’t know why the artists had to scrunch Cavill’s face and purse his lips in such dogged determination so that he looks cartoonish. Affleck’s poster at least has him appearing human, though a tad George Clooney from the nose down. It’s hard to hold a rage pose on a poster and not have the energy diminished by freezing in midair. At least in the poster featuring Batman’s face, he looks more hesitant, as if the physical and emotional struggles were real. Superman with that oddly shaped face just looks petulant and surly.

With Deadpool rocketing to box-office records this weekend, audiences may be at a point where they like their superheroes deflated of the pomposity and self-regard of the A-listers. One can still be dark and brooding without being a stick in the mud, and now and then it is refreshing – and cathartic – to take the piss out of the superhero.

The IMAX poster is better, showcasing a hulking Superman facing a beefed-up Batman as pieces of a destroyed city swirl around them. Again, I’m not feeling why this rage against each other justifies such destruction, but leave it to a female to swoop in and Liz Lemon her way through reassembling the men’s priorities when a new threat, Doomsday, emerges from the brain of everyone’s favorite megalomaniacal pontificator, Lex Luthor. Expect extreme glowering and mutual destruction of many a vertical edifice as both god and man wish they knew how to quit the other.
